Steve
Alterman as Ash
In the opening
of Kidd Video and in the music videos, Ash is played by Steve Alterman. Steve
sings and plays keyboards, bass and saxophone in the videos, and did actually
sing on the Kidd Video songs. He is featured as a vocalist on "Video
Romeo" and does backing vocals. He also provided the voice of Ash in the cartoons.
Before
KV
Steve filled guest
roles on several shows before becoming "Ash" on Kidd Video. He was seen on Eight
Is Enough as a band member in the episode "The Courage to Be" (1980). He appeared
on Knight Rider as a valet in "Just
My Bill" (1982). He also appeared on
The Greatest American Hero as Milton in "Space Ranger" (1983). (Do you have
copies of any of these television episodes? Let
us know!)
After
KV
During and after
Kidd Video, Steve appeared in several movies. He played Williams in the 1984 TV
movie "Silence of the Heart." He
also appeared as Peter Hoffman in "Big
Trouble" (1986). He joined Bryan Scott and Cathy Cavadini (Glitter) as a party
guest in the movie "Some Kind of Wonderful"
(1987). Like Bryan Scott, he has continued to work in the movies as a voice actor
and as part of sound post-production. His film credits include "Gross
Anatomy" (1989), "The Fabulous
Baker Boys" (1989), "Coup de Ville"
(1990), and "Scream" (1996).
Steve and Robbie
Rist also had their own band, The Beat Society, for a couple of years after
Kidd Video; they played the L.A. Club circuit and performed mostly original songs
that Robbie had written.
Where's
Steve?
Steve
is still in California doing voiceover work for movies and television. Some of
the recent films he has done are "Mission Impossible 2" ( the voice of a guy getting
beat up by Tom Cruise), "Big Mama's House", "Dinosaur", "Scary Movie" , "God Bless
the Child" and the soon to be released "Remember the Titans" and "Men of Honor".
He has also done voices on the TV shows "Baywatch" and "The X-Files."
Steve is also still
a musician. He sings and plays piano, organ, and blues harmonica in his
new band, Blues Daddy; they play in local clubs, doing covers of
Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robben Ford, The Blues Brothers and others.
Steve is happily married with two children, ages 10 and 5.
