Do you have a question
that isn't covered here? Let us know.
Earth...
Q.
How old are the cast members?
A. According to the April 1985 issue of Bop magazine, Bryan Scott's birthday
is in May. Bryan was 19 in 1985, which would make him 34 this year. Robbie Rist
was born on April 4, 1964, meaning he was 21 in 1985 and he turned 36 this year.
We don't have the birthdates of Steve Alterman or Gabriele Bennett-Rossi.
Q.
Where are the cast members now?
A. Robbie Rist, Bryan Scott and Steve Alterman have all worked in the movies
in the past few years,
mostly behind the scenes or as voice actors. Robbie Rist is also a prolific musician
who is currently in at least 3 L.A. bands. Bryan Scott is reportedly living
in Las Vegas. Cathy Cavadini, the voice of Glitter, is still doing voice
work, most notably recently as the voice of Blossom on The Powerpuff Girls.
Q.
What time does Carla's alarm clock go off to wake up to go to rehearsal?
A.
It goes off bright and early at 8 am.
Q.
What kind of motorcycle does Kidd ride?
A. Kidd rides a red Honda Arrow Scooter.
Q.
What kind of truck does Whiz have?
A. Whiz drives a yellow Subaru Brat. It has red stripes and lights mounted
on top.
Q.
What do we know about H&S Storage?
A. It's
a standard mini-storage place. The building and doors are white. There is an H&S
Storage sign on the door to the area where the band keeps their equipment... the
band parks their vehicles in front of this door. Underneath the H&S Storage sign
is a standard "For Sale" sign. It has a phone number 985-3805. To the left of
the door, the words, "Trucks Park In Rear," are painted. Of course, Whiz parks
his truck in front anyway! Inside the storage area are shelves, boxes and barrels...
and of course, the mirror to the Flipside.
Q.
What kind of car does Carla drive in "Come
Back To Me"?
A. Carla drives a Ford Mustang convertible. It has a California license
plate that says "KIDD V". Incidentally, her license sticker is up for renewal
in September 1984. The diner she goes to has a Help Wanted sign in the window...
and they sell hot cakes for $1.49.
Q.
What kind of equipment does the band use?
A. The band prefers Yamaha & Roland keyboards, Gibson (Les Paul and Explorer)
guitars, Shure (57) microphones, and Pearl drums. The mic that Kidd, Ash, and
Whiz are singing into at the studio in "Come
Back To Me" is a studio-standard Seinnheiser microphone. The electric drum
kit that Carla has on her white drum kit is from Yamaha.
Q.
What can you tell me about the band's clothes?
A. Ash and Kidd wear hi-top Converse All-Stars in the theme song, and therefore
they are also drawn
into the cartoons. Kidd wears red, Ash wears black. In the cartoon, Carla has
pink shoes that match her dress. Kidd and Whiz both seem to have gotten earrings
in the second season (see "Video Romeo.")
Carla is also known for wearing a gigantic hair bow in "Turn
Me Up." There are lots of scarves and bandannas used in their clothing: Kidd
has one around his leg; all the guys have scarves on "You
Better Run;" Carla is wearing a scarf on "Come
Back To Me."
Flipside...
Q.
What's the Kiddmobile?
A. In addition to the band being taken to the Flipside, their instruments
and Whiz's truck are also taken. Whiz's truck transforms in the Kiddmobile in
the new world. It's a huge spacious hovercraft that also serves as living quarters
for the band, Glitter and Toolbot. It also has an autopilot.
Q.
What's the Groove Machine?
A. The Groove Machine is an instrument that Ash plays. It is best described
as two white oval pieces that are a bit larger than phone receivers. The two oval
pieces are joined at shorter ends and can open like a stapler. When you open the
Groove Machine, you see a bunch of keys and buttons. Ash plays music on the Groove
Machine and sings his really bad lyrics. The origin of this little contraption
is unknown. [DYN?
The Groove Machine seems to change sizes from episode to episode. Sometimes
it looks like a cellular phone, and sometimes it seems to be bigger.]
Q.
What is Toolbot?
A. Toolbot is a robotic toolbox that was invented by Whiz. He's got a lot
of wacky gadgets inside of him, as well as legs, arms and a built-in motorcycle.
He is introduced in the second season.
Q.
What is Tin Snake?
A. It's Master Blaster's metal snake. You can see him in the episodes "Master
Blaster Brat" and "Having A Ball."
Q.
What Is The Fortress?
A. The Fortress is Master Blaster's flying base of operation. Not only
does it have a lot of high-tech gizmos that Master Blaster uses to find his music
groups, as well as plot against Kidd Video, but Blaster and the Copy Cats also
live there. It is shaped like a giant jukebox.
Q.
Did Kidd Video ever make it home?
A. There is no indication that the band made it back to earth, although
Ash did go home temporarily in "The Stone."
Other
Questions...
Q.
What are the kids' last names?
A. No last names were mentioned on the show, although Kidd was actually
referred to as Kidd Video. A stage name perhaps?
Q.
Where can I find tapes of episodes?
A. Golden Book Video released five commercial videotapes. These are the
original cut as they aired on NBC, minus the popular music video. These tapes
are sometimes available through flea markets and online auctions.
Other episodes
circulating around were probably taped from the last known broadcast of Kidd Video,
on WGN in 1992. These versions do not contain the music videos, and also the pop
songs featured during the episode were dubbed over with unknown stock pop songs.
Perhaps this was because the songs 'dated' the show, or perhaps the rights to
use them were not obtained.
Rumor has it that
some Kidd Video episodes will be released on video sometime next year. As soon
as there's any news you'll find it here...
Q.
Is there a Kidd Video album?
A. A soundtrack-type album does exist! It was only released in Israel in
1986. (The cast of Kidd Video also toured Israel in 1987.) Here's the track list:
Side One:
1. Video to Radio 2. Where
Did Our Love Go? 3. It's Over When The Phone
Stops Ringing 4. A Little TLC 5. We
Should Be Together 6. Come Back To Me
Side Two: 1. You Better Run 2.
Video Romeo 3. Time
4. Turn Me Up 5. Easy
Love
The
front cover of the album has a big picture of the band on it,
and the back has a cartoon picture of them in the Flipside. The
record label is CBS records. Shuki Levy and Haim Saban produced
the songs A Little TLC, Come Back To Me, Easy Love, Turn Me Up,
Video to Radio and You Better Run. They also wrote Video to Radio,
Come Back To Me, You Better Run and Easy Love. Gary Goetzman and
Mike Piccirillo produced the rest of the songs.
Q.
Is Kidd Video coming back to TV?
A. The last known broadcast of Kidd Video in the USA was on WGN in 1992.
It comes up from time to time in other parts of the world. Try contacting Cartoon
Network or Saban's Fox Family Channel
if you want to see the show broadcast again.
Q.
What's that movie the band is in?
A. Bryan
Scott, Steve Alterman and Cathy Cavadini [Glitter] are credited as being party
guests in the movie, "Some Kind of Wonderful" (starring Eric Stoltz and Mary Stuart
Masterson). How did the three of them end up in a movie together? No one knows,
but it's an interesting bit of trivia.
